Description

This vivid and interesting watercolour must be a preparatory sketch as it is covered with lightly pencilled notes by the artist with hints and directions as to the colour of the sky, stonework, flora, etc  of the country scene.

An inscription on the back of the mount says “Hawkstead church, Suffolk”, which is very likely a misspelling of Harkstead, a village just down the road from where he lived in Holbrook, Suffolk
