Description

David Rolt had an exhibition in Istanbul in 1966 and stayed at the British consul-general’s residence.  This drawing is titled Summer House, though the summer house in the consulate garden had in fact burnt down some years earlier and the subject of the drawing is just the luxurious garden where the building once stood. This garden is the subject of other works by David Rolt, including a large oil painting, Red treescape (archive ref. 0123)
