Description

This painting is from a collection of small landscapes by Charles Duranty that were bought by the late Tim Manderson, a director of the William Heinemann publishing company, who became a friend of the artist. It is accompanied by a friendly exchange of several letters between the two of them from around 1970 in which they discuss Manderson’s acquisition of a set of similar small landscapes for his home. The other works from this set are also shown here.

On the back of the work is a gallery exhibition label from Roland, Browse and Delbanco and a note of the original price: 24 guineas.
