Duranty, Charles - Risen from frozen marshes *
Born in Romford in 1918, Duranty developed his appreciation of the East Anglian landscape during his time working on an Essex farm during the war, though he only began painting it in earnest later in life. Described by him as “imagined landscapes” the paintings evoke the big sky and low rolling hills of his native Essex
