Description

This is one of three images that Bellany created for The Scottish Bestiary, a book of poems and prose by George Mackay Brown published in 1986 that featured 20 prints of birds and animals by seven Scottish artists.  This image was commissioned to illustrate The Grouse; Bellany opted to depict the capercallie, which is a very large - and increasingly endangered  member of the grouse family.  Bellany also provided illustrations for Eagle and Wild Cat (which you can see in our gallery).

The image size is 45 x 30 cm (approx 18 x 12 inches) on handmade paper, sheet size: 75 x 55 cm. It is signed by the artist and marked 25/50
