Description

Featuring strange hybrid figures, part bird, part fish, part skeleton, part human, Fisherman is one of Bellany’s more enigmatic works produced as a series of 10 +1 A4 size images produced in a limited edition of 200. The “+1” image is the one shown at the top of the list here; it is printed on a different quality paper rather heavier than the main series.

The whole set comes in its original folder, with a frontispiece that reveals it was produced at and for the Royal College of Art’s printmaking department, which was appealing for funds at the time. in 1983. There is also a sheet containing an introductory foreword by critic Wlliam Feaver.

This set comes from the estate of Bellany’s friend and fellow artist Stan Smith and is most likely an artist’s proof.

All the prints are in good condition; the blue sleeve cover has very slight wear on two edges (see photograph).
