A typically enigmatic composition: the three female figures appear to be on a boat named Bethel, but in the small fishing community where John Bellany grew up it was believed to invite bad luck for a women to set foot on a fishing boat. Women were tasked with the fun jobs: cleaning and gutting fish and providing bait.
